Last month, Nuclear for Australia has had four key parliamentary visits to advance pro nuclear bills.
Thanks to the ongoing support of our donors, we were able to bring our leading nuclear experts directly into the rooms where decisions are being shaped.
Currently there are 3 separate Bills raised to lift the nuclear bans:
- Federal Parliament (Environment and Other Legislation Amendment (Removing Nuclear Energy Prohibitions) Bill 2026. Sponsored by Matthew Canavan.
- Federal Parliament Environment and Other Legislation Amendment (Low Emissions Future) Bill 2025. Sponsored by Jane Hume.
- NSW Parliament (Uranium Mining and Nuclear Facilities (Prohibitions) Repeal Bill 2025). Sponsored by John Ruddick.
Between March 10 to March 12, nuclear experts Dr Sarah Lawley and Dr Robert Barr AM, along with Nuclear for Australia Founder Will Shackel visited politicians in Canberra, to discuss the federal nuclear bills. The team were able to meet with politicians across the political spectrum to answer their questions and address concerns.
The following week in Sydney Will Shackel, alongside experts Lenka Kollar, Dr Robert Barr AM, Peter Thomas and Jonathan Fisher visited NSW Parliament to discuss the bill from John Ruddick to lift the New South Wales nuclear prohibitions. The team followed up the following week with another visit to NSW Parliament where further progress was made.
Finally, during Science Meets Parliament, Will Shackel joined nuclear expert Jasmin Diab for an important meeting in Federal Parliament.
Across all four visits, we held constructive and productive discussions with members of the Coalition, Independents, and other stakeholders. The breadth of engagement reflects a growing and genuine interest in nuclear energy across the political spectrum.
We look forward to building on this progress in the months ahead as we continue our engagement with both State and Federal politicians.
