Commenting in response to the Queensland Government's Energy Roadmap, Nuclear for Australia Founder Will Shackel said:

“The Queensland Government has today released their Energy Roadmap – a so called ‘balanced’ energy plan that failed to consider all the options.

“This Roadmap maps out a path to 2050, and instead of considering low-emissions nuclear energy, they have turned to the continuation of fossil fuels, extending the life of coal fired power stations.

“Nuclear provides 20% of power in advanced economies according to the International Energy Agency, and does so in a way that is affordable, reliable and low emissions.

“If the Government knew they were going to have to extend the life of coal fired power stations to support the energy demands of their state, then they should have engaged with industry experts on nuclear to understand how it could offer a solution to their energy needs.”
