Nuclear for Australia has made a submission to the NSW Data Centre Inquiry.
Australia's electricity demand is set to nearly double by 2050 as a result of electrification and rising electricity demand from data centres needed for artificial intelligence.
Around the world, major technology companies such as Google, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft and Meta are investing in nuclear energy to meet this demand.
Unfortunately, nuclear power remains illegal accross Australia. Many states including New South Wales have state prohibitions creating further barriers.
Recently, I made a submission to the NSW Data Centre Inquiry highlighting the case for nuclear power to meet the needs of the state's data centres.
By 2050, it is predicted that around 20% of NSW's electricity will be required by data centres. This submission comes as John Ruddick's bill in the Legislative Council is debated to lift the state nuclear power and uranium mining prohibitions.
