Yesterday, our founder Will Shackel, as a 16-year-old addressed Senator Canavan, Senator Hughes, Senator Grogan, Senator Van and Senator Payman in an Environment and Communications Committee hearing on why he believed Nuclear Energy should be legalised in Australia.
You can watch the full evidence here:
This came after being invited to the committee (which you can read about here) last month.
In his initial statement to the committee when discussing the energy transition that "if these untested plans fail, besides from dangerous and damaging fossil fuels we have no backup, no redundancy, and no Plan B" declaring to the senators that "the consequences of the poor decisions you make now are the consequences my generation will be condemned to".
At the conclusion of his statement he outlined three reasons for supporting nuclear. Firstly because it is clean and emissions-free, secondly because it is reliable and a form of baseload power and finally because it is safe and in fact the second safest form of energy generation.
Following this, he answered questions from each Senator discussing topics ranging from the social license of nuclear, young people’s interest in the nuclear industry and his motivation for starting Nuclear for Australia.
Will’s evidence received national media attention with interviews on Sunrise, Ben Fordham Live, 3AW, ABC Radio Brisbane, Chris Kenny Live, 3AW Mornings with Neil Mitchell and 3AA.
