Following the re-election of the Labor government, Will Shackel, founder of Nuclear for Australia, said:

"Despite a well-funded anti-nuclear disinformation campaign, Australians continue to support including nuclear power in the nation’s energy mix.

"In electorates where nuclear power plants were proposed, the majority experienced either a strong swing toward the pro-nuclear Coalition or a swing below the national average.

These results demonstrate that despite the multi-million dollar anti-nuclear disinformation campaign, Australians still have an open mind to nuclear power.

"Voters were repeatedly misled with claims that nuclear would cost $600 billion, only contribute 4% to the energy grid and would take 20 years to come online.

"Nuclear for Australia’s ‘Facts. Not Fear.’ campaign played a key role in countering nuclear disinformation reaching 15 million Australians. Over 110,000 Australians have now signed our petition to lift the ban on nuclear power.

“With Australia facing a worsening energy crisis, the case for nuclear will continue to grow.

"Globally, momentum for nuclear is building: bipartisan political support for nuclear now exists in both the US and UK and 50 countries are planning to adopt nuclear power, including our neighbours like Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, & Singapore.

"Nuclear for Australia calls on the new government and opposition to support nuclear power in Australia and immediately lift the nuclear power prohibitions."
