Background
Currently the Australian Parliament is holding a bipartisan house committee into nuclear energy in Australia. Nuclear for Australia strongly encourages supporters to create a submission.
Why a submission?
What is a submission?
A submission to a parliamentary committee is a written document where you can share your expertise or perspective on an issue to members of parliament.
Why write a submission:
- Inform parliamentarians
- Provide evidence for the report and dissenting report
- Potential to be summoned for testimony
How to write a submission
Requirements:
- Must be over 250 words
- Be prepared solely for the purposes of the inquiry
- Not have been published anywhere else
- Be relevant to the terms of reference (see below)
- Be received by the committee before the due date (November 15th 2024)
- Include the name, postal or email address, and contact number of the person or organisation making the submission
Other Tips:
- Submissions can be in multiple formats such as a PDF, word document, pictures or even a short video
- On the online submission you are able to upload multiple documents including a coversheet, public submission and a confidential attachment
- Focus on your expertise or personal experience
- Reference claims with authoritative sources
- Do not copy or replicate other submissions, originality is important

Committee Membership:
The committee has the following terms of reference:
- deployment timeframes;
- fuel supply, and transport of fuel;
- uranium enrichment capability;
- waste management, transport and storage;
- water use and impacts on other water uses;
- relevant energy infrastructure capability, including brownfield sites and transmission lines;
- Federal, state, territory and local government legal and policy frameworks;
- risk management for natural disasters or any other safety concerns;
- potential share of total energy system mix;
- necessary land acquisition;
- costs of deploying, operating and maintaining nuclear power stations;
- the impact of the deployment, operation and maintenance of nuclear power stations on electricity affordability; and
- any other relevant matter.
